About Stoneworks Stoneworks

Louis Le Couteur

Stoneworks was originally set up as a sole trader partnership in stonemasonry in 2001. We originally started as just two stonemasons and over time we took on more staff including apprentices.

In 2007 I became sole owner of Stoneworks when my partner decided to pursue other ventures. I too pursued other interests along side the stonemasonry and became involved in property development and oyster farming. In 2011 my first child was born and I decided that I was working too many hours so concentrated on stonemasonry and general building. By 2016 we were undertaking much larger contracts, I had more staff and subcontractors so decided to form Stoneworks Ltd.

Louis Le Couteur Director

I attended Elizabeth College until 1992. I then worked for Guernsey Sea Farms Ltd for two years oyster farming before becoming interested in stonemasonry and so I sought an apprenticeship. I completed my apprenticeship, followed by achieving the City and Guilds advanced craft certificate at The Guernsey College of Further Education in 1997. I then studied Construction Management and the Environment at Plymouth University for 3 years before returning and setting up Stoneworks with Grant Hutchins.

There is a legacy associated with the name Le Couteur and stonemasonry in Guernsey. My great grandfather and then my grandfather ran a very well know stonemasonry and construction firm until the mid-seventies. Among the many contracts that they completed over the years was the construction of many of the sea walls that you see around the coast today. We too have become involved with sea defense work and have been contracted by The States of Guernsey for the repair and maintenance of many of these walls, which have stood the test of time with the relentless bombardment from the ocean and elements. One of my grandfathers’ apprentices still works part time for Stoneworks Ltd.
